Here is the back of the thermostat.
There is no white wire for the furnace but there is an orange one.

So my curiosity is in the wall, if there are wire nuts or crimps for another wire bundle. Or is that a direct shot from your thermostat to the AC and furnace?

Wonder if the previous owner wanted to replace or possibly they thought they were getting a better thermostat and fouled up ordering a cool only.

So we need to find your white SENS wire for the furnace.

Then we need to get you your correct thermostat for heat functions as well.

My understanding is a residential type thermostat can be used as long as it is a 12V system vs 24V. Maybe folks with a stronger background can chime in.

I would gently try to pull the wires from the wall cavity. As I said they may have crimps or bug nuts. If you can get that out of the wall we can go from there.

Are you in a cold world environment right now?

I double-checked the thermostat part number the OP gave and it is a cool-only thermostat. This isn't going to get fixed without the proper thermostat...

Roger that. Airexcel does not populate their library with his 342 thermostat. But the models are very similar to the wiring I put up. OP needs to find the furnace wire as well. Someone disconnected it and most likely stuffed it back in the wall. My thermostat has soldered wires to the terminal board.

The person we purchased it from was the original owner. They bought it and never took it out of their driveway. It looks like GD just put in the wrong thermostat. All of the wires shown go into a singe cable. I am betting that the orange wire is for the furnace as it is connected to the location of the furnace wire on the correct thermostat. According to GD parts lookup, it should have been a 9430-338 not a 9430-342. I'll call GD and see what they say. Amazon has the correct thermostat for $50 with next day delivery.

I would ask GD about the wiring also to make sure everything is correct to confirm swapping out the thermostat is the only action needed. Sounds like a typical 2020 COVID issue, like they were probably supposed to send a proper thermostat once they become available.

Got the new thermostat and put it in. Everything now works as it should.
Wonder how an A/C only thermostat ended up in it from the factory. Seems like any kind of QC check would have
found out the heater was not even hooked up.

Excellent news. Where are you located? Are you needing heat or just checking it out?
