    Electrical cord question

Ok, I really must apologize for this question but our first camping trip is coming up and my Wife is having anxiety over it so I want it to go smoothly. If I have a site that is 30amp service what would I expect the plug to be? The cord I currently have is a TT-30P to a L5-30R. I hope that is correct because I went by pictures.

I am hoping that is what I need for most campsites. If not, what types of adapters should I bring along?

The blades of your RV (male) will fit the female end of your cable. The other end will be 3 male prongs that will fit the female end of the pedestal awaiting you at the RV park. 30 amp is a 3 pin connector doodaggy. 50 amp is a 4 pin shagglefurd.

    Enjoy your adventure.

Is this the cord that came with your camper?

If yes, then you should be okay in a 30 amp site.

Additionally, most 50 amp sites also have a 30 amp outlet in the same box, this allows the camp ground to rent the site to any camper.

Experience has taught me to be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to electrical hookups in campgrounds (first trip, I am outside, in the cold, trying to fix my shore power connection at 3:30 am wearing shorts and a blanket). Consequently, I purchased a "Dogbone" adapter that would let me plug my 30 amp TT-30 into a 50 amp outlet and another "Dogbone" adapter that will let me plug the 30 amp TT-30 into a standard 20a 120v outlet. The 50a to 30a adapter allows me to use the 50 amp outlet if there is a problem with the 30 amp outlet. The second adapter allows me to keep the fridge and lights running from an extension cord (Contractor Grade) while I load the camper in the driveway.

For your first trip you will probably not need these adapters, but, eventually, you will (we all do).

Note: for those eagle eyed individuals that may notice that my current 310 GK is a 50 amp camper, my experience is from a previous 30 amp TT.

Make sure the breaker is off on the pedestal before you plug in as well since you are new to this and maybe consider a power management system

It would be a good idea to consider a surge protector for your RV. Recommended for all sorts of issues like low voltage, badly grounded systems, surges due to storms, etc etc.

These things plug into the pedestal at the camp ground and then you plug your wire into the surge protector.

Here is an example of such a unit for an30 amp service

The TT-30P will fit the cg's 30a pedestal receptacle. L5-30R is a twistlock. I'm guessing that fits your trailer.

Thank you all. I did tons of research previously so I have the surge protector. Only thing missing is the 50 to 30 dogbone which as you stated I will not need but it is now on my list.

This is a good example of a 50 to 30 dogbone.
