    Starlink Real-world speeds (with Location)

I figured that with Starlink opening up to the RVer world (officially) there are going to be a lot of questions of connectivity quality and speed. Starting a thread where others can see actual numbers on data speeds from real users. Figure post would be helpful for other considering the service (I gambled and am often in rural areas). I think it should include:

    City/state:
    Campground/Park Name
    Date:
    Speed:
    Latency:
    Sky Obstruction:
    Notes:

    I'll start off:

    Marquette, MI
    Chocolay River RV Park
    06/10/2022
Absolutely no obstructions, 100% visibility to sky in nearly ALL spots
Only had service for a few days but speed has been pretty consistent

And when it rains or has heavy cloud cover? Just curious...

We've had rain and cloud cover. Not Texas thunder heads, but thunderstorms. I never lost signal and speed never really dropped below 20mbps. Very usable speeds. I work remotely and my VPN only dropped a few times this week and I can't even be 100% sure it was Starlink.

Maybe Texas rain doesn't affect much, but Georgia rain does. Cloud cover no noticeable effect.

I have Starlink for home, and yes, rain/t-storms does affect it. Affects uplink more than downlink. Last rainstorm I had uplink was down to the point my Zoom call terminated due to no connection.

Im still happy overall. In my rural area, it's the only thing really available until maybe end of the year. So, even with the degraded service during rainstorms, Im happy.

Been absent from the forum fighting problems with our Solitude, but have had Starlink for longer than most as a beta.

Cloud cover has no effect. General rain and wind also no effect. Absolutely torrential downpours will, and hail will destroy Dishy.

If you camp completely rustic backed deep into the trees, Starlink will not be for you. If you like shaded sites, you can generally get connected (provided service is in the area) BUT do not rely on simple stand mounting. You will often need to elevate on a mast. I fabricated a setup where I can elevate Dishy up to 20 feet, and that has generally worked for us. Not 100%, but 75% or better.

This was the lowest speed we saw. There are certainly some sites that will have visibility issues, but we were in a clear area.Click image for larger version.
