    Fire escape

In the event of a fire at night I'm thinking the bedroom escape window in 5th wheels must be removed before attempting to climb out. Has anyone done this? Lay on the bed and kick it out?

Same true for the living area exit window? TIA.

The egress windows have flat metal closure rods with red handles. When opened fully, these rods fit through the slot and the window will swing wide open. Now... getting our American bodies through the window opening and dropping 8 or so feet to the ground is another story.

We've done a sort of dry run on this, without actually going through the window and dropping to the ground. We couldn't see risking a sprained ankle or knee on a practice run and felt comfortable with reviewing the moves. With our setup, 380FL, we would pull the mattress to the dresser below the window, put the blanket and/or pillows over the bottom of the window frame, go through feet first facing the window, rotate onto our stomachs, and drop to the ground. Not easy but if we have to do it, I suspect we would have a lot of incentive and enough adrenaline to make it happen.

We also bought the larger fire extinguishers at Costco and keep one handy in the bedroom. The standard one by the door doesn't do a lot of good when the issue is not being able to get to the door. Also, buy the biggest extinguisher practical. You don't want to run out of extinguisher before you run out of fire.

Keeping a fire extinguisher in the bed room is a fantastic idea. I'll be buying a good extinguisher just for the bedroom.

Thanks for your responses. Rob, so glad I asked. The red handle does slide right out so the window swings out 100% open. I bought an 8' rope ladder and will insert a 3' long piece of 1/2" rebar in the loops to hold the ladder in place on the inside of the trailer while we climb out. The rope ladder and rebar take up almost no room at all under the bed.
