    '22 17MKE changed to a 74" RV Queeen

Does anyone know the reason why GD changed the '22 17MKE from a full queen bed to a 74" RV Queen? I just discovered this and it doesn't make any sense to me. I thought all the GD queen beds were full-sized queens.

Wonder if it was due to Murphy bed? Maybe the Murphy bed manufacturer offered a lighter because it is shorter option? I have heard of imagine owners, specifically a friend with a 2600RB trading out a full queen for an RV queen to gain 1/2’ or so at end of the front bedroom when there is a wall at the foot of the bed. We considered it as both my 5’ wife and my 5’7” self really do not need the 80” bed. When the mattress needs changing will think about it then.

Interesting ideas. What I find strange is that there is room to put a full queen in the same space so why not at least give the option to the purchaser?

My guess would be that there was/is a supply chain issue on the 80" bed. It is a one off, Murphy style split matteress, so they put in what they can/could get.

I would have to go look and see what just came in, I just got a 2023 17MKE in stock this morning.

Not so sure it was ever an 80" after looking at this newest one.

They always had to fit under the trim piece at the top, and it sure wouldn't fit if it was 6" longer....

For sure previous models were 80" as I've seen and measured them. Perhaps the fold was at a different place. I also noticed that the wood platform underneath is longer which would accommodate the 80".

Could it be so you can use the bed while the slide is closed? I remember reading that you could not deploy the bed with the slide closed.

No, the bed can't be used with the slide closed.

Yeah, not sure when or if they changed.

I went and measured a 2019 21BHE that we traded in, and the mattress is a different brand, but still only measures 76" long.

If I remember correctly, wasn't the first year or so of the 17MKe a fixed 60X80 bed that was sideways in the front?

Interesting. You may be on to something. I can see why they changed the bed orientation but even with the shorter bed the one theater seat can't be reclined without the bed being up. To me the ultimate fix would be to incorporate the full queen by making the trailer just a few inches longer.
