    Add hitch to 22MLE

I would like to relocate my spare tire and add a hitch to the rear of my 22mle. Planning on carrying a generator and I think that would be the best place for it since it will be about 100 lbs. I assume others have done this mod. Is there a kit to weld up? I found a spare tire under belly carrier that is an easy modification. Just looking for the hitch now.

    Add hitch to 22MLE

Why not put it on the front?
That is the best location IMO
Plenty of shelving kits for genny’s on the market to over the LP tanks. Stromberg Carlson makes one

I wouldn’t want anything on the back. Ymmv

We have a 22mle but no need for a rear hitch. There are several threads discussing possibilities if you do a Search in the upper right of the page.

IMO that would be a great location for it. Furthest away from the bed in case you want to sleep with the AC, closest to the plug, no need to raise it, easier to fill since it would be lower. 1 of our members used this company that makes custom generator boxes. This mod is on my list of things to do. I'd simply get a hitch receiver welded and the get a rack. https://kshmarine.com/custom-generator-boxes/ I'll try and dig up that thread.

I agree the rear would be the best location for your setup.

IIRC the f150 with the 2.7l has something like 750-760 tongue weight max. Your 22mle tongue weight is probably not far off of that now, so adding a 100# generator to the front may push you over that limit.

On page 7 it lists the max tongue weight at 1400lbs with WDH and makes no preference as to which truck. So that means all F150's have a 1400lb TW rating.

Yes. But. TW gets added to payload. And payload per the truck door frame sticker is most always the limiting factor in these things.

    Just one clarification…

TW is part of payload, but, to FlyStar’s point, TW has its own limitation at the receiver, 1400lbs.

So, by putting the genny in the bed it does eat your payload, but has no impact on TW.

Putting a receiver and hitch on the rear is a great idea, but remember, that also has pitfalls.
It can erode TW to some extent (not always a bad thing), has its own set of weight limits, and lastly, can bounce once loaded.

Not a bad idea to explore a hitch for the genny in the back as long as all of the above is properly addressed.

Last time I weighed I was as 13% or 720 lb TW. Given the aluminum body, I only have 1379 lbs payload to work with. I may look at a smaller generator and get 2, run parallel but that will still get me up to 100lbs. Easier to move around, 1 in the bed and 1 in the pass through. I haven't come across a smaller inverter with a 30 amp RV plug. Most have a couple of 110 plugs.

    Add hitch to 22MLE

Here is the all popular Honda 2200 with a 30amp plug

    https://a.co/d/0JhJ2zn

But a bit on the pricey side from Amazon

This is a 4500 peak with an extension cord remote start and 30amp rv plug. This is one of my fav’s. Comes in a tad over 1k and 98lbs.
