    New Technology Refrigerator

    Alert! New Technology RV refrigerator:

Just out of the research labs at Loppert Inc. The engineer’s call this thing an “Ammonia Absorption Refrigerator”. What they are saying:

    - Super efficient. Runs on either propane or electricity and can automatically switch between.

    - will run for weeks on a 30 lb. Bottle of propane.

    - Runs essentially silent as it has no moving parts.

    - Since it runs on propane it will not draw your battery down while on the road.

Stay tuned for more exciting news on this and other developments at Loppert Labs.

    Ha ha. Just joking.

After having a 12v only in this new rig… and a propane in the old rig, I prefer propane.

I took the liberty of "editing" part of your post, to reflect a more accurate statement....

Super efficient. Doesn't Run on either very well. Bonus.....It can be used as a heater oven when it stops cooling

My experience has been different. I have had 4 RVs with absorbtion fridges, All of them, even the first one in a 75 Prowler I purchased in 1992 worked well. I will say that the one in my current rig performs the best. I did have an issue with the cheap computer fans it came with. When they failed I replaced them with quality units with a 50,000 hour durability rating. This fridge maintains temps very well. The produce lasts longer than in my fridge at home. and it doesn't have cold/hot spots. It IMO works great.

I've had two different Norcold absorption fridges.....and both of them have been marginal at best. The first one was smaller than my present one (18 cu ft), and it worked slightly better than the 18 cu ft. I finally gave up on it and had the JC Refrigeration mod done back in May. Much better

Only familiar with the three absorption refrigerators we've had, and all three worked just fine. But you usually hear more from people who's things don't work than from those who's things do work. JMO of course.

LOL...I agree with that ^^^^^ But, I do feel justified complaining about a fridge that lists for not too much under $5000....and works more like a heater oven than a fridge.

This is my first RV, but the 12v fridge in ours is sweet. We're in AZ where the solar keeps up with the fridge demands while we're driving, and the thing is huge inside compared to an absorption fridge of the same footprint. We have had some latching and condensation issues which I think I have resolved myself.

Only two things to go wrong on a 12V compressor fridge. The thermostat and the ECM. Both of which are for the most part dirt cheap. Good luck buying parts for an absorption fridge if it quits. I've had 3 absorption fridges and 2 were great and the last one died 3 months out of it's one year warranty. No way was I going to pay $1400+ for an 8cuft absorption fridge when I could get a 12V for $925 and add a 3 year warranty for roughly $50. I would much rather deal with keeping my batteries charged than trouble shoot another absorption fridge.
I really feel that todays absorption fridges just aren't made as well as they were 5+ years ago.
