    Low voltage disconnect for Momentum

I'm exasperated with myself after leaving the Battery Disconnect Switch on again and draining my battery. This is the first time with this trailer, but not the first time it's happened...unfortunately.

I like Blue Sea products, and am looking at installing this device on the toyhauler: https://www.bluesea.com/products/763...age_Disconnect.
My question is will it work for what I'm wanting to do: shut off power to the trailer when the voltage drops too low, and prevent toasting another battery? If not, other suggestions will be welcome. Not interested in spending huge sums for a lithium product, so plan on sticking to LA battery. We never boondock so one 12 V battery has been good for us for the last 20 years.

    TIA

Looks like it will do the job. I would question what voltage it allows you to set for power disconnect. Best bet is to look at a LA battery chart and select a voltage where the battery is still around 75% to ensure damage doesnt occur. The description of the switch didnt specify the increments of voltage you can choose.

Thank you for the input. This is what I've found for shut down voltage:
    12.1V
    11.9V
    11.7V
    11.5V
    11.3V

I have a 25W solar charger, that would stay connected and could charge the battery when the disconnect activated. The disconnect will automatically reconnect at 13 V. The default voltage of 12.1 V seems a bit low, but with the charger connected it might be okay.

Attached is a LA battery chart. 12.1v is still above 50% so damage shouldn't occur, especially with a solar charge supplement. Click image for larger version.

Thank you. So if I can keep it above 50% SOC I should be okay? It wouldn't be necessary if my memory were better. But c'est la vie.

Yes, keeping a battery at 50% or less is typically when damage occurs. Anything above you shouldn't have any issues. Obviously you'd want to do your own research to validate, I'm no battery scientist. [emoji6]

Howard, what a great find. My Factory battery cut off doesn’t eliminate all parasitic current draws so I installed a Blue Sea Marine cut off. I’m going to order the low voltage disconnect and install it as a back up. Amazon sells it for $73 https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-Syst...dp/B00GZOP53M/

It seems odd this has never come up before. After reading a lot of the electronic/solar threads on here, I was wondering about a low voltage cutoff, since I just ruined my latest battery by leaving the Battery Disconnect Switch on while in storage. I have a solar charger, but it won't keep up with the parasitic draws, if I don't turn the switch off.

    Great minds think alike.

Just bear in mind that with the low voltage disconnect on lead batteries, without a way to maintain or recharge the batteries the batteries will continue to self-discharge. So don't expect the voltage to cut off at 50% and think the battery will stay at 50% without a trickle charger or something.
