Yellowstone National Park
We are really enjoying YNP. We are staying on the West Yellowstone side just inside Idaho. As kids back in Indiana we always heard about the park, Old Faithful, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, colors of the geysers, paint pots, the wildlife, water falls, inspiration point, scenic drives and such. For our parents working in the factories, it was too costly in time and money to drive all the way out to Wyoming from Indiana, and they never really had enough vacation to get out here and back to really enjoy it. We're talking back in the early 60's, So its something we never thought we would get to see.
Now as senior citizens we get to enjoy it at our leisure. As for animals in the wild, Tami has checked off her list deer, elk, wolf, black bear, bison (plenty of them) and got to see a newborn bison calf just getting up.
It doesn't seem like the park is too crowded, though lots of people watching Old Faithful. We can only go in on even days and tour the lower loop but still lots to see and take in.Last edited by Steven@147; 06-28-2022 at 07:54 AM.

Beautiful. A treasure for sure. Visited in 1973 on a motorcycle with my brother. Camped in a pup tent. And again in 2018 trekking, again with my big brother. Memories and family. Blessed.

We haven't tried Bullwinkle's yet but had dinner at The Three Bears and The Outpost.
Yesterday we were in the park and came across a bull elk with a huge rack, beats me how they hold their head up. A little later got a close glimpse of a grizzly from our truck!
Spent some time at the upper waterfalls, Tami's has arthritis in one knee so it took us a little while to navigate the walk and stirs but she said it was really worth it.Last edited by Steven@147; 06-29-2022 at 07:22 AM.

We heard yesterday that the northern loop will reopen July 2, tomorrow, but the north and the northeast entrances remain closed. Also they are canceling the Odd/Even license plate days so most of the park should be wide open. That means a lot more traffic.
So we can enter on the west side, take the the lower loop clockwise to Canyon Village, then into the northern loop and Tower Roosevelt, then over to Bunsen Peak, then down to Roaring Mountain and Norris (driving counter-clockwise around the northern loop).Last edited by Steven@147; 07-01-2022 at 09:09 AM.

What wonderful photos!
We have our first trip planned for this September. Can't wait to see it all.
So glad to hear that the odd/even number policy is ending. The couple we are traveling with have and even plate like us so it was really going to limit our access.
Thank you for sharing you trip with us!2020 Reflection 29RS 5th Wheel

Attached is a map you get when entering Yellowstone, there are others you can get at visitors centers that are a little more detailed. If you're like me, I need a visual reference to make sense out of it. You can see both the northern loop and the southern loop.
Also on the back of this map is Grand Teton National Park our next stop. We still have a week left here at Yellowstone.Steve & Tami Cass - Escapee's, FMCA Members, Texas Fulltimers Since July 2020

Steve,
You may be tempted to take US20 South to Victor, ID and then ID33/WY22 to Jackson, WY. BE ADVISED - that has a 10% downhill grade for at least 5 miles into Jackson.
We've done it in our truck and most people advise it isn't for RVs. I wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary. But some just can't help themselves and just blast through. I'd suggest going through Yellowstone on 191 to you next destination.
oh - pack your patience as your travel (slowly) through the Jackson Hole traffic.
Thanks for keeping us up to date.Larry KE4DMG
