    Emergency Spring Repair

Within the first 1500 miles of our 7k mile summer trip I noticed the curb/kitchen side of my 3250bh was sitting low. Comparing springs from either side under load and curb side is beyond flat, almost a W.
We were at the Hershey, PA KOA so on Monday as we were leaving I stopped at America’s Tool Shed near the rv park. They ordered 3k lb 5 leaf springs x4 and hardware from Dexter in Carlisle, PA for me to pick up 30 minutes away.
On the way I located a truck and trailer mechanic that showed mercy and started on it immediately.
In a couple hours we were back on the road and headed to Cleveland.
It seems to ride better since the springs aren’t so close to their limit and it certainly sways less.
My decision to replace crappy steel with slightly heavier duty yet equally crappy steel was solely based on a small percentage of logic and a large percentage of availability.

The guy at the trailer shop said they were 2600lb springs.

Pictured is the curb vs street side loaded, what they looked like when they were pulled, and what the new springs look like.

Yeah, they definitely looked a bit past it.

Just curious if you've actually weighed it, and what the weights on the axles were.

No, never weighed it. Since we are in the middle of a trip my goal was to get it fixed and on the road again.

Just curious, as even at GVWR the 2,600 lb. rated springs should have been sufficient, albeit not by a huge margin. It does seem to point towards poor quality steel.

That’s my thought as well. I definitely feel more confident rolling down the highway.
