    Our TPMS saved the day

TPMS alarm sounded, left rear tire, pulled over within 100 yard to found out that we had lost not only the tire but the whole hub. Looked for the lost wheel, nowhere to be found. Lucky we found a local mobile RV repair “DOM’S mobile RV repair” what a nice guy. Slowly (10mph) we drove to his shop and the RV will be ready for us to pick up on Thursday.
    Now I’m
On the lookout for a 15” 6 lugs 5.5 rim that will fit our 5th wheel.

Always good to hear a bad story with a good ending. I'm glad things worked out and hope you find a wheel soon.

What brand TPMS were you using? Some have a very long time between when the sensor loses contact with the monitor, and the monitor alerts. Depending on the brand, you could have lost your wheel/tire an hour before. Sure wish there was one with a quick alert for lost signal. Seems like there should be a way.

Take this post as a wake up call or warning to all who pull any kind of trailer. CHECK THE TORQUE ON YOUR LUG NUTS BEFORE EACH TRIP !!! The same thing happened to me two years ago and my entire wheel came off. The studs were sheared off. Odd thing was I had no idea I had lost a wheel until I backed into my campsite 90 miles from home and was in total shock when I noticed the front right wheel was gone.

I cannot over stress the importance to checking the lug nuts on a trailer. They will work loose and you will not feel or hear it. If lug nuts become loose on a vehicle you are ridding in you can tell immediately. On a trailer there is no warning. I now carry a torque wrench and check my wheels often!!

There are several internet sites where you can order a direct replacement wheel much cheaper than through a dealer.

Constantly retightening the lug nuts shouldn't be necessary, and can also lead to problems if you overtorque the nuts and stretch the threads. Just my experience, but I've never had a lug nut loosen up after being tightened to the correct torque. If yours are loosening up constantly, you may have other issues.

I agree with HF. My experience is putting a torque wrench on the lug nuts once or twice on a 10,000 trip and they never budge. Just the click. They have not come loose. I have the cheap Harbor Freight version of a torque wrench. Perhaps invest in one of those digital torque measuring things just to make sure your wrench is not lying to you.

That's all I do, put the torque wrench on and listen for the click. I would not call this re-tightening but just "checking" tightness.

Same for me - listen for the click.

found out that we had lost not only the tire but the whole hub
If I’m understanding the OP’s comment correctly, this was not a lug torque issue but rather a wheel bearing/bearing retainer issue.

After rereading a second time, third read, I think you may be correct. He does say "the whole hub". Oops, well all good advice anyway. Maybe just not germane to the subject.
