Same here - use RVTW to plan and upload to Garmin RV 890 (there is a learning curve) and I have found issues with both RVTW and Garmin so I also consult the Road Atlas and look for trucks. Unfortunately, RVTW and Garmin are not completely up-to-date on construction and interstate closures. I do not use google because it doesn't know what's behind me and it gave us a low bridge experience in Ohio on an accident re-route that I would not want to repeat. I've also set my height in both RVTW and Garmin to 13'6".

Garmin routed me differently from RVTW twice on last trip and I've deferred to the Garmin or state re-route signs. Got us through 4500 mile trip and am planning 5000 mile for August now on RVTW. I also pre-loaded fuel stops from RVTW to Garmin but even that didn't account for a Love's no longer where it used to be.

Most notable difference was on the way home through PA. RVTW routed me west back tracking to pick up I-84E. That was the safe but long route. The Garmin put me on a state highway along the Delaware Water Gap. Worried me but it worked out well though I would not take that route south due to tree overhang on the non-water side.

I-29 was closed in both directions for construction around Omaha/Council Bluffs. Pained me northbound to see the trucks NOT following the re-route signs to follow I-80E - they all headed I-80W and the Garmin 890 kept trying to turn me on I-80 repeatedly and put me back on I-29 - sounded like google. Ignored both once I saw a truck pass by on I-80 and followed the signs. Extra 40 miles. Bottom line was truckers new where to go - I just didn't know which way they were ultimately heading or exactly where I-29N was closed - they did.

Same route closed southbound a month later but this time the signs routed me on I-75 through downtown Omaha and then south past Offutt - no truck fuel stops and again no trucks. Garmin was in sync with this re-route so I kept going. Was very happy to find Johnson's Gas-n-go just north of Nebraska City - less than 2 gallons left in tank. I assumed the same re-route and had a pre-planned fuel stop - couldn't get there. I now look at state DOT sites for road closures.

FWIW, I use them all now but rely on the Garmin primarily while driving.

We use a Garmin as well. One "accessory" I have (and have used) is the Rand McNally Motor Carriers Atlas. Maybe I'm old school but it helps ease my mind.

Is "Low Clearances POI" a Google product or third party add-on to Maps? I did some quick searching and wasn't able to find such a thing. Help?

We started using the RV Trip Wizard app and it seemed to work well, however, on it last trip to Livingston, there were several times the app just locked up. On two of those occasions, I had to reboot my phone.

So, what I do now is use RV Trip Wizard, on the computer, to map out and plan the trip, including fuel stops, then I export it out, then import it into the Garmin RV 780 GPS. Several extra steps, but easier to plan. I will also use Google Earth and Google Maps (with the Low Clearances POIs) to check anything I might have concerns with.
Did you install Low Clearances POIs on your Garmin? Says it's compatible with Garmin, but not necessarily with the RV series.
    Thanks,
    John

Yes, I did! You will need to use BaseCamp to install them to the Garmin. If my memory serves me correctly (which is suspect), there are instructions that come with the zip file. Let me see what I can find.

EDIT: here is an excerpt from the installation instructions.

    - Connect the Garmin to the PC
    - Start up POI Loader and let it find the Garmin
    - When asked to locate the POI files for loading, go to the folder ‘Route1 single-POI versions’...

...It is possible to install each and every individual file, but it's much more time consuming...

I am not posting all of the instructions, but as you see, it is possible.

    Thanks Mark,
Looks interesting. I use the same method - plan RVTW, import to BaseCamp, download to Garmin.

Be aware that POIs are not used by the Garmin GPSs in route planning - nor will you get alerts for them. The Garmin RV and trucker (Dezl) GPSs already have low clearance data in them and use that data in the routing engine and for alerts.
