Solitude tire change
GD Owners manual states to use one bottle jack on the frame close to the spring shackle close to the tire that needs to be changed out. I assume the slides must be in, leveling jacks retracted, rig connected to truck brakes on, chocks on tires opposite side of tire being changed, level as possible and use a jack stand for safety. What am I missing? I know the manual states do not use the hydraulic leveling jacks to change a tire. I am not interested in using the hydraulic leveling jacks to change a tire. Using a 20 ton bottle jack.

Slightly loosen the lug nuts first, before you start jacking.....unless you have an electric impact wrench...

I am only an Imagine but, yes. I just did my semi-emergency tire change. We are at a park and I had a pinhole leak for two days. I did a jack stand to the right of my tire which when facing was the right hand tire. Did a six ton bottle jack in the shackle base about 2 inches from where the leaf spring mounts. She went up like a champ, lowered her onto the jack stand while the tire place patched the hole. Then reversed everything. I am confident in a full emergency change of a tire on the side of the road.
Good luck to you.Randy and Kris

Grand Design, as do other trailer builders, use lots of CYA messages, and not using the hydraulic leveling jacks for changing ties is one of them. If, and when, I need to change a tire you can bet I will be using my six point leveling jacks to help do it. If you feel uncomfortable about it, just use the hydraulic jacks to take the majority of weight off the wheels, and use a jack on the U-bolts of the axle and raise the tire enough to change it. And, IMO, jacking on one point of the frame to raise it enough to change the tire is just asking to possibly tweak the frame a skosh. I wouldn't do it.
But, of course, this is all JMO.Howard and Peggy

Hoppy Oh ya don’t jack on the axle was another no no in the manual. I hear ya about cya comments. I will probably use the leveling jacks to take some of weight off like you recommend! Thanks

You carry all that wood with you when you travel? And what do you do if the spot isn't level enough for that, admittedly well thought out, system to work? No thanks, I'll use those hydraulic jacks on mine, and save a tree besides. I've used the hydraulic jacks when parked at a RV park/campground, and had a tire of two off the ground with no ill effects.
