    New 2023 315RLTS Questions

Picking up my new 2023 315RLTS in two days. Looking forward to the upgrade. After much research I opted for the 1,600/16,000 lbs. Equalizer w/d sway control hitch set-up. Also having MaxxAir vent covers installed over all of the roof vents.

    Questions for the group...

    1. Does anyone have direct experience using an Equalizer w/d sway control hitch? If so, what are your thoughts?
    2. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or input relevant to the 315RLTS model?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

We've got a 2019 315RLTS with the 16/16k Equalizer and don't know the trailers is behind us while pulling with a 2013 Duramax. Had Equalizer on prior trailer and swear by em'. They do squeal into a tight turn but that's not a problem but a trademark . Live in it Dec-April, and the only problem we've had was with a water heater fitting, which broke off and couldn't be fixed. It wasn't covered under Dometics warranty and was probably overtightening at GD factory. Even though we were 5 months out of warranty, GD paid for a new water heater and the labor was on us, which was fine. No other problems & fit and finish still like brand new. Enjoy.

I too am happy with the Equilizer hitch towing a 312 bhts behind a Silverado 2500 Duramax. My previous, smaller trailer had a Reese dual cam which was good but I like the Equilizer better. It is easier to use, better ground clearance and tows great.

I am using that hitch and the 1600 lb bars.
You will need a 3/4 drive tool and torque wrench or a torque multiplier.
You could also take it to a rv shop if you have one near by and they can do it for you. First time I installed my hitch (1400 lb) took it to a place a few miles away and they did the torque for for free. I had already assembled it.

    You will need
3/4 inch ratchet for shank bolts
3/4 inch torque wrench for shank bolts
1 1/8 box wrench for shank bolts
1 1/8 socket for shank bolts
3/4 inch socket 1/2 drive for bracket bolts
5/8 inch socket 1/2 inch drive for angle set bolt
1 7/8 Thin Wall socket for ball (Bottom)
1 3/4 inch wrench for ball Top)
    Tape measure

Ball torque is 430 ft lbs
Shank torque is 320 ft lbs
Bracket torque is 60 ft lbs

    Good Luck,
    Bill

Good point. Maybe I'll have them assemble it and install it before buying all those tools. Thx

Jeff, we're not quite a month into owning our 2022 315 RLTS with a Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch. I wanted a ProPride hitch, but the dealer couldn't get one. They suggested the Blue Ox instead. We used Blue Ox for the past 10 years on our Foretravel motorhome, and were very happy with it, so went with this one. A couple of years ago we visited the Blue Ox factory and stayed at their campground when they serviced (actually replaced) the old tow bars. Didn't do a factory tour, but maybe this summer. Great campground. If you are there for service it is free. Otherwise it is $20 or $25 per night for FHU.

We also just picked this up and are using the Blue Ox. Had Anderson on last rig that a was Jayco Eagle and a bit lighter. Wanted to go with something rated higher so we moved to the Blue Ox. Really like it, so easy to use. Years ago had another bar system that was a bit loud. Like the bar and chain combo. Having the rig to the dealer as we have have real issues with getting the trailer brakes working right, there is no power to the rear camera, and they forgot to install the LP quick release. I should have caught the last two during the pick-up process - my bad. Weather has been crap but starting next month we will be getting out monthly. Hoping we are happy with the purchase.
