Cross Country Northern Tier from Yorktown Va Planning

We are in the midst of a nine week trip in New England visiting NY, VT, NH, ME, PA, VA and WV.

Starting to think about and plan a trip out to the Pacific NW starting in mid April next year. We stay on travel days at Harvest Hosts with usual 7 day stays in area.

I try to limit travel days to 300 miles.

We prefer state, county , national parks the most but are willing to stay in campgrounds you are not “sardined” .

We easily can go 8 days without hookup or more as we’ve got a robust electrical set up with lithium, solar panels, and a Victron Multiplex with a good generator if really necessary.

Two days gets us to Louisville where we intend on heading north to Milwaukee/ Chicago area, then Door County Wis. These last two a 7 day visits. From there I think Mt Rushmore and Badlands area for 7 days with a HH/ or BLM in between. From there it’s wide open.

Where do you recommend as cant miss 7 day visits
I already plan on Yellowstone ? Looking at ending in Seattle area before the trip back. Again back on the semi northern route. Maybe a jog to Utah ?

I’ve got plenty of info and books , but what I want are your personal experiences.

Thanks ahead of time for you thoughts and recommendations

I would second Utah - especially the national parks in the lower half of the state. "PNW" encompasses a whole lot of territory, though. We are quite partial to the north coast of the Olympic Peninsula - especially the Port Townsend/Sequim (pronounced skwim) area. From there you can day trip the Olympic National Park, take the ferry to Seattle, and do most anything you like.

    Great suggestions Rob,

Ever go south from there, Mt Rainer, Mt Lassen, Mt St Helen’s?

We've been all the way from the peninsula to San Diego... but we only saw the big mountains from a distance as we passed by to other destinations.
