It's not logic, it's physics. Black radiates heat better than white, but it also absorbs heat better than white. Just the way it works. Seems to me that yes, the cowl will get warmer in the sun, but will radiate heat from the A/C running better than white. So, I guess if you only run the A/C when the sun is shining... We try to park in the shade, and our A/C also tends to run most of the night if it's hot.
Do an experiment: paint one cowl white, and leave one black. With the same BTU A/C running in each, see which has a lower overall temperature average. Personally I have no definite idea how it would turn out. But sometimes physics trumps common sense.Howard and Peggy

Haha, understood. We do like the shade too, but in FL where we park for a couple months in winter there's no shade to be had. I can't do a comparison as we only have one AC. Thanks for the response, just wanted to understand more before I put in the effort.
