Response from Grand Design
Have purchased a new Momentum 350M a little over a week ago. Made first trip and had problems. Breakaway switch pin came out while driving under normal conditions on I20. Had already been over 60 miles with no problem when for no apparent reason the pin came out. Damage occurred to the wiring and the brakes. Have found numerous postings on other sites discussing "faulty Breakaway Switches" but Grand Design has refused to cover this under warranty because, their words, "Breakaway switches are perfect and never malfunction". In addition, over the last 6 days I have sent two emails via their "contact Grand Design" web page and have not received any response yet. One of the reasons I chose Grand Design was all the positive postings on this site and how responsive they were to owners concerns. Guess the internet has fooled me again!

I have googled breakaway switch and also searched on several other forums, can't find any faulty switches being discussed. Where did you come up with this info?

Here a couple of posts from the G.D. Facebook page
"...the breakaway switch came out of the box and we didn't know it and got down the road and someone flagged us down and said we had a fire - brakes were on fire cause of it coming out of the box. Found out today that GD will not cover it under warranty even though they sent us a new box, we only had it 16 days - just went from dealer to home and had to cancel our 1st trip out..." " I'm so sorry you're having problems and a bad start to what should be a good adventure. Just had an idea...check to see if the breakaway switch has become disconnected from the trailer. That happened to us once & it felt like our diesel engine failed because we could barely pull the trailer. Once we replaced the pin and the trailer brakes released all was well..."
I have read several others that have experienced the same problem.

You are sure you didn't have something catching on your wire? I have had mine pull out before because it caught on something in the truck bed....

Not meaning to take this off topic . . . but, shouldn't a bright flashing light go off on the pin box if the breakaway switch is pulled while towing ?? I think even I can figure out how to wire this up

I had my breakaway pin get pulled out several times until I changed it out to one with a spring coil. And I think Rob' s idea is a great one.

E Trailer, Heartland Owners Forum, Forest River Forum, and Grand Design Facebook all have post of problems with breakaway switch or pin.

Everything in the truck bed was on the other side, passenger's side and I had already driven 50 miles or so making numerous turns and stops. It occurred driving straight down I20.
