    Aarp

So Good Morning and apologize in advance if I missed it somewhere.
We are in the decision making stage if to join or not to join AARP.
Looks like there may be a few benefits that would offset the annual cost.
In addition to our pension, SS will kick in November 2022.
at this point: Life Members of Good Sam and Passport America, will be adding KOA, Pilot / Flying J through GS,
So if anyone has or hasn't or did or deleted etc, pros and cons of AARP???
    thanks,
    Jeff & Karen

Sometimes there is an AARP discount at hotels that is decent. We’ve never found the car rental or insurance to be close to what we can find on our own.

AARP seems a bit too much of a political lobby. Their causes are their causes. Not necessarily the things I would support. Joining is funding this activity without any control or say in it.

I have the same feeling about them.
I used to thumb through the magazines when Mom got them and I seemed to disagree with several of their opinions.
Now that I'm getting invitations from them on a regular basis, I politely say no thanks (and deposit the literature in File 13)

I’ve been a AARP member for 25 years now. As a veteran you can join and renew for a 43% discount. Ie $45 fir 5 years membership. https://appsec.aarp.org/mem/join?cam...831.1658503888

I’ve used hotel/motel discount, certain restaurants like Denny’s, Outback, Carabba’s etc discount etc. They also offer a decent supplemental Medicare policy from that my financial advisor recommended if I didn’t have federal BCBS PPO.

Their magazine has some good articles for retirees.

They do lobby for the elderly and retirees. If you are on Social Security or about to qualify AARP lobby’s for members.

The only thing I found worth while was the AARP Driver Safety course. It's good for 3 years and the insurance discount more that covered the cost of admission. Otherwise there really isn't anything you couldn't get on your own by asking. Oh yea, you will get tons of junk mail that you'll probably tire of before long.

I never joined as it seemed to me that an inordinate amount of money was spent on mailings/marketing, and political workings, and many of those workings didn't reflect my views.

For us old farts the AARP lobby group is a strong force in congress pushing for seniors.

Until recently My AARP Visa card was my go to card for any dining or gas purchases. It was 3% cash back at those venues. It even included fast food restaurants.

Recently they changed from Chase to Barclays bank and now it’s 3% cash back for gas and drug stores.I use my Costco Citi VISA card now for gas at 4% cash back and 3% cash back for restaurants.

I always pay off credit cards in full monthly so interest rates don’t mean anything to me.
