If you are going to use a level, use it on the ground first.

A definite challenge here. Even the pads at Mobil aren't level enough - have to pull in one direction only or the tanks don't fill.

That's why I can't do it in my garage - it slopes at least an inch if not more from front to back. The tape measure is close enough for me.
