No matter which style you use, you want to either have the metal stem, or the metal sleeve over the rubber stem. The forces from the weight of the TPMS on the end of the stem could cause problems down the road with stem cracking and leaking. Seen it happen, although it was after a lot of miles.

TST or not, you really want metal stems on everything; they are just all around better. Spend the few dollars to have the tires dismounted and new stems put in, IMHO. Maybe get them to put balancing beads in or any other operations you're looking for while they have the tire off the rim (balancing, etc).

Had one of the metal ones designed for high pressure break from the tpms sensor. These were the ones that were metal on the stem, but pull thrust the rim like a rubber one. This was in less than 2000 miles. The 17-428 stems have a nut with a extended sleeve for aluminum rims with not much clearance for the nut. No more problems.
