Toggle Bolts in Walls
Am I correct in that the wall insulation in our 2600RB is rigid foam? In that case, I suspect that a toggle bolt will not open up to be a useful shelf bracket support. I want to attach a couple of shelves to the kitchen wall over the stove and am not sure what fastener is best. In our sold Montana, the insulation was batt fiberglass so a toggle would open. What do you use?

Why not find a stud and screw to that?

Theoretically you could use a toggle bolt. After you drill a hole for the butterfly bolt to fit through you could somehow clear out enough of the ridged foam to allow the bolt to 'butterfly' once you insert it. I've never done it, but it seems possible.
Alternatively you could mount a nice piece of wood about 1/2" think to the wall using good double side adhesive tape (think VHB type strong) and a few screws into the luan wall and then mount the shelf to that. Maybe run the wood strips horizontally and twice or 3x as wide as the metal bracket.
Let's see if some other members have any good ideas. The odds of 2 aluminum struts in the right place at the right spacing is pretty slim. But there may be at least one you could use.Larry KE4DMG

The stud is all the way to the left at the frame of the kitchen window with the other one just right of the middle of where the center of shelf would be. I like the idea of the wood piece behind with several screws into the thin luan. So there is hope

The DW wants a shelf for spices. We currently have placed them in a tupperware bowl w/lid in the pantry for storage.
However, now she wants to store them on a wall near the stove. Given the issue of the slide wall and its mounting abilities, we decided to purchase a small bathroom/medicine cabinet which can stand on its own on the counter top or be wall mounted. It also has a door w/glass to keep the spices from coming out during travel and any possible rodent intrusion out as well in storage.
You also might consider something like this too as it could sit on the counter and still be double sticked taped to a wall, or mounted on the side of a cabinet with better mounting ability for screws.

Jim, that's an intriguing idea. I'll pass that on to DW (aka Joyful).

The same company (and Amazon) offers a large version as well if you need more storage and have the space...

Even if you got a toggle bolt to expand inside the wall, the thin Luan skin on the inside would not be strong enough to hold anything of consequence. For small stuff, 3M Command strips/hooks work well; for larger things, find an aluminum stud as suggested.

I here ya Rob. I did use a toggle in the bathroom door side wall left of sink as I was putting up a towel ring that had a pair of screw holes. Just wanted a bit more support for the ring that may get more force put on it. Was not comfortable with the small wood screws that came with the ring.
