It looks like the camper and truck hit the concrete barrier as he went past the semi, so he might not have escaped completely unscathed. I am sure his heart was beating out of his chest afterwards...

I can see how the guy pulling the camper might be confused. That is clearly a two lane highway with the opposite lanes temporarily closed. My guess is he thought he was in the passing lane. That is really giving him the benefit of the doubt. Of course, there is a distinct possibility that he is simply an idiot or completely distracted.

I would give that theory some credence if there weren't a very bright double yellow center line...

In one of the Dashcam videos I watched, the caption said the Camper Driver thought he was in a "proper" lane because the cones dividing the two lanes had been removed. Also, the Semi with the Dashcam was going downhill with a full 80,000 pound load.

The three drivers did a very good job of minimizing the carnage that could have been.

Bet he had to find a cg with laundry facilities...
Wonder if the pickup driver realizes how lucky they were. Run that scenario a 1000 times and the pickup occupants would die 999 times.

The Semi and the Camper did collide, just not head-on. The pickup bounced off the guard rail and into the side of the Semi's trailer.

Probably no campgrounds for a while.

I know that road and was on it a few days ago going downhill.

It's a major construction zone with the other side closed for quite far! There are several more construction areas in both directions. Sure they can be confusing, but this one is really basic! Cone or no cones its it's obviously 2 way traffic.

Wow, the bad guy was passing, going up hill, on a curve, double yellow line. Somebody pull his driver's license.
Truck driver and me will have bad dreams for the next six months.

From the previous replies, it sounds like he was not a bad guy, just a little confused. Your reply still made me laugh...
