    Black water interior valve

Hi All, My trailer is 1 year old. My black water valve wont close all the way from the very beginning. I took it in and they replaced the valve and it still wont close. They said now that it was the packets I bought for the tank. Instead of liquid we bought the little dishwater type packets. Apparently those gum up the valve? I talked to Brittney Plank at Grand Design and she says I am out of luck if I used them and that if I take it in again it will be at my expense and not under warranty. Anyone else heard of these packets clogging up the black water valve in RV's? Wish I would have known before buying them. How can they be sold specifically for RV's if they mess up the valves?

    Sounds like BS to me
I don’t use them but have plenty in the past without ever having an issue
Sounds like another uneducated Grand design employee spouting whatever to end the conversation

It's certainly possible depending the on the brand and frequency with which you use them. Have you spoken to the dealer that did the first replacement? Now they are saying the problem was the packets clogged up the valve? What did they say the problem was when they first replaced the valve?

A lot of people use them, I'm sure there would have been more reports of this on here. Out of curiosity, what brand were you using? Did you prefill the back tank with some water before dropping the packets? It's not impossible I guess.

We use the drop in packets in our black tank. But prior to dropping it in, we let it sit in a small container of hot water for a hour or so to dissolve it before dumping the dissolved fluid in the tank. Then, add about 3 to 4 gallons of flushed toilet water afterward. Been doing that for 4 years without issues. We also occasionally use sensor cleaner too.

Note: Using our method, the time to add the fluid is based completely on the packaging being dissolved. Also, we always flush and partially fill the black tank after each and every sewer dump and then dump again.
