Who Da Thunk It....And Yes, it a Norcold

Just thought I throw this out there....An honest to goodness Norcold that is operating in a 90 degree outside air temperature environment....with direct sunlight on that side of the trailer....

Now, the rest of the story. JC Refrigeration 12V Twin Compressor mod done to this unit and the eyebrow control on setting on #4 of 9. Needless to say, I'm happy after struggling with the OEM Norcold that just never seemed to work well, no matter how hard I tried adding fans, doing the door flapper mod, the muddypaws thermistor mod. Nothing ever seemed to make it consistently work as it should. This seems to be doing the trick.

OTOH, My 2021 Norcold performs great in Phoenix AZ, where 90 degrees is winter time. It is over 100 degrees 99% of the time in the summer. 110 is getting hot and 115 is not uncommon.
My only complaint is the stock fans failed early. I replaced the with weatherproof ones rated for 50,000 hours.
Perhaps there have been some changes between 2018 and 2021? IDK, but I am happy with it. Since I boondock 100%, I do not wat to go with an all electric fridge. I do run it on inverter when under tow, and the solar keeps up with the 55 amp draw, but once in camp, it runs on propane.

    1. You probably are in the minority with one that works well....I'm serious. 2. If you would have had to fight with yours like I've fought with mine for THREE long years, you'd have done something different too. This was the perfect answer for my situation.

Could be. OTOH, people that do not have problems rarely post about a non problem. So long as mine keeps performing well, I will keep using it. I have NO PROBLEM making a change when something doesn't perform to my high expectations... Since we boondock in remote locations for 2-3 weeks at a time, my stuff has to work. I had pull start rope on my Honda EU2000 break in camp once. Fortunantly I had another Honda ready to go. I had propane regulator fail once on a cold weather hunt. I now carry a spare, along with the pigtails. With the Momentum having a fair amount of solar, and a 5.5 Onan built in, I am considering leaving one of the Hondas at home... I haven't done it yet though...IDK, could be seperation anxiety? My point is, I will do whatever it takes for my coach to work well

Put me in the minority group too. We lived full time in our 399 for 3 years and used it off and on for the 4th year before we sold it, had the Norcold 2118 and never had a single issue with it. Glad yours is working well now, nothing like a warm fridge.

It is the Norcold 2118, the four door 18.xx cu ft model. I let JC Refrigeration do the mod simply because I'm getting too old to be doing that kind of stuff anymore. It's definitely something that will require at least two people to be able to manipulate it out of the cubicle it's in, and then get it over on it's front side in the living room/kitchen area while installing the kit.....then wrestle it back into place.

JC makes this available for many models of the Norcold, along with many model of the Dometic units. I can be modded to be a "residential" type unit also, that runs strictly on 120VAC instead of 12VDC....but they are two totally different units, and you pick which one you want.

My appt. was at 10:30 that morning and we left the trailer there and drove into Shipshewana and wondered around the downtown area. They told us to be back at 12:30 and it would very likely be done.....and it was. They know exactly what they are doing and just make it happen.

That’s what I’m leaning towards also.
