Tongue Jack Stabilization questions
Searched and didnt find an answer.
There is a surprising amount of motion in the front jack at the camp site, even with the stabilizers down. It looks like we may have bent it.
So what can I do to improve the situation. Heavier stabilizers? Heavier tongue jack? interested in suggestions.GMC 2500 HD Gas

Are all the bolts tight where the tongue jack bolts to the frame? They can look tight but be loose enough to allow play. Scissor type stabilizers don't do the best job of stabilizing, either - especially if they're extended far. Good, solid blocks under the scissor stabilizers so the don't extend to far can really help.

yep bolts are tight, first thing I checked.
I put blocks underneath the stabilizers, I will add more to decrease the length the stabilizers are extended.
Previous trailer was shorter and this was never an issue.GMC 2500 HD Gas

Since I started using the Fastway one-step as my tire chock, it has helped cut down on movement. And using blocks under the stabilizers and tongue jack. It all helps cut down on movement.

Get these. They will cure most all of the movement.

Yup, agree - we use Strong Arms too! Triangulating the support of the landing or stabilization gear helps with shifting movement as well as provides strength to the supporting structure.
"Triangulation involves the use of triangular shapes to give stability to structures. It relates particularly to pinned or hinged structures. Usually these types of structures offer no resistance to bending moments when a force is applied. Members trying to resist bending do not need to be as strong."
Warning: Just be sure to loosen the "T" handles prior to moving any landing gears or stabilizers! It can be easy to forget...Last edited by trailrydr; 08-19-2023 at 09:28 AM.

JT Strongarms are the way to go. Our old 35' BH trailer shook so badly that the heads on several bolts holding the stabilizer jacks snapped off. Installed a set of JT Strongarms and all movement was gone. The kids could run up and down the trailer or rough house in the bunk room and you wouldn't feel any movement. I have another set on order to install on our new 22MLE. There are cheaper brands available but the quality and robustness of the strongarms is worth the extra.
