I hate to be the party pooper (sorry, couldn't resist), but 50 - 80% of human feces is bacteria. It's there because it already lives inside you and is necessary for digestion, communicating with your immune system, and and producing certain vitamins - among other things. You'd be a very unhealthy person without your little friends. It's the pathogens you don't want and, to add to your paranoia, you never know who's carrying them...

I enjoy these threads. Some people are very diligent in their efforts to avoid any contact with any sort of waste. Then there are people like me who spent way too many years of my life around farm animals to be too awfully concerned about a little dirt on my hands. The rule I use is to not lick my fingers or pick my nose until after I wash my hands.
My setup and tear down routine is to connect the stinky slinky last then wash my hands and go on with our adventure. When packing out I disconnect and stow the drain hose last thing and wash up then hit the road.

Greeks had a lot of uses for urine and feces. Urine when left to sit turns into ammonia a good cleaning agent. They even used urine as a mouthwash. They would use the feces when tanning leather, The feces made the leather softer.

Posts like these make me glad I put a UV system and carbon filter on my water inlet, and followed up with RO on the drinking water supply.
