    Wheel-end assembly completely destroyed

On our “short” trip home (about 100 miles) from a weekend of camping, we were warned by another driver on the road that our rear passenger tire on the trailer was smoking. Long story short, we lost the entire tire, rim, drums, break shoes, and bearing. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? Is this something that could be covered under warranty? This was only our 3rd trip with this trailer.

First, welcome to the forum! Very sorry this happened to you, no matter how you slice it it suck’s, but the silver lining, it can be fixed and more importantly, no one was hurt!

I have read stories of that happening, and more often than should be.

I've seen this once before. Last year a trailer pulled in next to us with nothing but a bare axle and the inside bearing on it.

He and his other traveling companions had a heck of a time getting the inner bearing off and burnishing the outer race enough to put on a new bearing. He had to use a Dremel tool to cut off the inner bearing.

I think it just overheated, probably from lack of grease or maybe it was just a bearing failure.

A 2019? No, you're not under warranty. When was the last bearing service??? That spindle doesn't look like it has seen any maintenance at all. Cannot definitively tell from the photo, but looks like the lip the grease seal rides on is trashed. You'll be needing a new axle as the fastest, most straightforward repair for damage like that.

Sad to see.. the cause of this failure is operator neglect. The axle bearings clearly have not been serviced … ever.. routine annual maintenance most likely would have prevented this.l if you have the skill sets you can fix l this yourself .. whether you’d need a new axle can’t be determined till you remove the races that are still in place..

You didn't state it, but I am assume you purchased this trailer used and not new?
