Tired of lifting my steps and dumping dirt into the trailer--so what i did
I drilled out the 4 pop rivets holding the back plate at the top of the stairs.
Then cut off part of the bottom plate leaving a 1 1/2 space between the top step and plate.
Replaced the plate and the two top rivet holes (made larger) with nuts and bolts
1 ....The plate will still stop people from kicking the side of the trailer as they enter
2.....Easier to carpet the top step (so the dog won't slide on the slick steps)
3---Dirt falls off (or i brush off ) before steps go upright and into the trailerLast edited by ForBruce; 09-07-2022 at 03:28 PM.

Interesting way to go! I just blow them off with the battery powered leaf blower I use to clear off the roof and toppers and stoke the fire.

I just stand back and curse them. I'd take the fold out steps in a heartbeat.

I took a different approach and removed the One Step or whatever they were, and sold them on Facebook Marketplace. I replace them with the TorkLift Glowsteps and never looked back.....

I still have the old fashioned fold out steps on the rear door going into the garage, so it's pretty easy to compare the difference between them, and the Torklift Glowsteps. The Glowsteps are rock solid and absolutely zero bounce when going in or out of the trailer. The old fashioned ones.....not so much. We don't use the back door that often, but when we do, it is very obvious the difference.

But the difference between the movement of the steps is due to the trailer suspension, not the steps, per se. The suspension gives, so the steps move. Put a grounding strut on the fold out steps and they'll be just as solid as any step.
