So there you go.....and remember, if you are legal (driver's license wise) in your residence state, you are legal (driver's license wise) in every other state in the U.S......reciprocity between all states is in effect. Also remember, you still have to abide by the "Rules of the Road" laws in whatever state you are traveling in, and you should be golden.

It's called a Class A Non-Commercial Exempt. Not all states require it - it depends on where you're domiciled and licensed. You can check the requirements for your state here:

    https://changingears.com/rv-drivers-...-requirements/

If it's required for your state, you're over 26,000 lbs. GCVWR, and you don't have the Class A license, you can be ticketed for driving without a license.

Thanks Rob, looks like no need for one in NJ!

This also applies to your neighbours to the north. Canada with 10 provinces and 3 territories.
Unless your flying or taking a boat it’s the only way to get to Alaska by land.

Not required in AB or YT and your chances of getting stopped between Pouce Coupe and Watson Lake are slim to none!

Sorry I should have been more specific. The reciprocal drivers license agreement also applies to Canadians driving in the USA and Americans driving in Canada.

You just never know..especially at Taylor, Pink Mountain or Cecil Lake.
Ft. Nelson, Ft. St. John and Dawson Creek not so much.

    Take care

Side note but more important, a lot of newbies also don't know about the weighted tag for your TV - you do need that.
For example, I have a 26000 lbs tag for my TV - costs about $150/year so about $100 more than a standard vehicle tag. (that's TN). Moved from NC last year -that was far worse around $700/year, but that's also due to NC's BS yearly value tax.

Regardless of drivers license req for your state, you'll get ticketed (if they bother to check) if you don't have the weighted tag and you're towing.

This is not the case in many states. One would have to check on their state requirements separately. I cannot find a handy table for this like exists for the drivers licenses. Texas, Georgia, nor New Mexico use a "weighted tag" system.
