Good searching. I agree, it certainly looks like that to me too. So I do believe we're good. Thank you for posting that.

I ran the commercial driving program at my last job. Commercial Drivers Licensing (CDL) is cover under Title 49 of the CFRs, Subtitle B, Chapter III, Subchapter B, part 383. See link.

The CFRs can be confusing and bounce around referencing multiple subchapters and parts. You must read, and re-read multiple times to thoroughly understand them.

Example: read the definition of a Commercial Motor Vehicle in part 383, and part 390. They differ. The reason: 383 deals with licensing. 390 is general regulation. A Ram3500 operated as a single unit with a GVWR 14000lbs would have to register as a commercial vehicle because it is over 10000lbs but does not require a CDL to operate. But tow a trailer over 12000lbs (CGVWR over 26000lbs) and a CDL is required. Keep in mind this refers to commercial (engaged in commerce) not private.

Don't confuse federal with state regulations. As an example, Federal Class A has nothing to do with Texas Class A (non-commercial). However they do read similar which makes things confusing.

Do you know that for a fact, you can quote/cite corroborating evidence, or is that what you've read, or been told?

Can only comment in B.C. Canada, asked at the motor vehicle office. In this province if your trailer is over 10,000 lbs you need a special endorsement on your licence. If you have a commercial license that also is sufficient. Motor home with air brakes, standard licence but a air brake endorsement required. Canada also varies from province to province, as long as you are legal in your home province you are good anywhere.
Also now when you purchase the dealership takes a copy of your license to cover there butt.
