MORryde StepAbove with Strut Assist faulure.
One of the struts on my steps either popped off ( not likely as the clip was still in place) or was never installed correctly. Noticed this the day after the NEW unit was delivered.
UGLY. Anyway I pulled the strut cover and tried for about an hour to get the strut back on the pin. (yes, I pried the clip out). The strut needed to be compressed about 1/2" to go on the pin and I just couldn't get it.
What i finally did was get out of the rig and put the steps up. Then took off the plate that goes across the back of the steps and rides on the door frame when the steps are up. Lower the steps, then tie a string to
them so I could pull them up from inside the unit. With the plate off, you can gently bring the steps in about 4 more inches than normal. This is just enough to get the strut back on the pin.
Well the strut is fixed and the steps work fine.....but the wall..... a brand new unit as delivered...

Contact GD and they'll send you the matching paper that's adhesive backed. You just carve it off the damaged area, sand the edges to a nice feather, fill with a patching compound, sand smooth and then a little primer sealer. After that, it's up to you if you do a local path or floor to ceiling. The latter is standard. If you do, clear wall very good with TSP before applying. Done well, no-one but you will know. I actually repaired a 16-inch gouge and Nikki is none the wiser!
