    Towing Question

Im looking to buy an Xplor 247BH or the Imagine XLS 23BHE and want to make sure my rig can handle it. I have a 2021 Ram 1500 Limited, the inside of my truck says the GVWR is 7100lbs. The max payload is 1061. Based on those #'s should I be trading in my new truck so I can actually tow something decent? Hitch weight on these is right around 550ish. 1061 payload is low, but my rig has the "luxury" features that add weight of course.

First off, I see you're new here, welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of different opinions on tow weights here, my initial take is that either of those trailers is likely to be a bit more than I'd be comfortable towing with your half-ton truck. My experience was that pulling with a three-quarter just felt safer. For short trips in good conditions, you'd probably be OK. Long term, I think your hunch that you'd be better off in a bigger truck is right.

Well your truck will pull it but you will be the only one riding in it with a half tank of fuel.

The real world tongue weight will be more like 750# not 550. Weigh your truck with a full tank of fuel and any passengers. Then subtract that from 7100# and get your real world payload.

That is a really low payload. How much do the people and anything else in or on the truck weigh, this includes anything added after it left the factory? This will let you know what is left to work with. Plan on 13% of TT GVWR for the tongue weight.

I am not one that is too concerned about going over a little if everything else is ok. Check your axle ratings, especially rear I would try not to exceed this at all.

Here's the specs. Just looks like my rig isnt beefy enough to tow either. I do have the air suspension and the 3.92 axle though.
