Campsite Pirates?
Have you read the article from The Associated Press, "Crowded campsites, high demand cause fights, 'camp pirates" 9/24/2022? The article was about Oregon but I'm sure it is happening in a lot of other state and local parks. Maybe because these type of sites are cheap compared to privately owned park sites. I'm also sure this has been going on a long time but is now getting reported more widely.
With the increased amount of people living and fulltiming in RVs, some because they can't afford housing or whatever and the explosion in RV sales, seems like a lot of things are coming together to cause this kind of problem. Sad state of affairs'.

We have experienced this a couple of times in a particular OSP that we stay at frequently, always with reservations. Last year we arrived & our site was occupied (trailer, awning out, BBQ, potted plants etc. in the site but no tow vehicle). Park rangers eventually found us another site to stay in as we were only there for one night. The next day we drove by the site on our way out. Same situation with no tow vehicle.
The year before that we arrived a little early & the site was occupied with a couple of trucks, three tents 3 or 4 dogs. They did not look like they were packing up. We went to a day use area in the park & waited well after check out/in time. They were still there. Notified Park staff, they told them to move out several times with no joy.
I'm not going to confront these types of yokels 'cause life is to short & who knows what this type of dirt bag will do.
The park finally assigned me another site & gave a full refund.
These people were assigned another campsite & they moved just before dark.
We use this state park at the beginning & end of our trips north as it's only 4 1/2 hrs. from home-stay one or two nights to bike or kayak the river then move on.Paul, Sue & Wonder Dog Zane

It's hard to watch at times but it appears there is a new trend that some of the new RVers have no idea of the traditional camping etiquette of leave no trace, don't take what is not yours , treat others sites as private property and not to squat on someone elses site. Another trend I have noticed the last 2 years is there seems to be some younger parents that turn their kids loose hoping the campground will watch them while they are holed up in the trailer working. Hopeful those that haven't learned what it's all about will in short time so camping can become the peaceful pasttime it has always been.
