Sizing new bed gas struts
Imagine 2670MK. GD parts says I have 2 20" 40 lb struts. Any tips on how much bigger I should go? Are 2 120 lb too much? Or 150 lb?? Old mattress long gone, so can't "weight" old vs new. Just don't want to overbuy to the point where the bed opens by itself, or is tough to close. Or am I overthinking it all?

We have a 12" foam mattress in our 2650. I replaced the struts with 60# ones and re-mounted them at an angle. This supplies some initial lift to the mattress.

We have a 12 inch mattress and purchased the 120# struts on the shelf at CW. My dear wife has difficulty pushing the mattress down from the open position. 100# struts would probably be perfect for a 12 inch mattress.

We just replaced our OEM queen in our 2600RB. It weighed ~15#. The new one, a Wilderness Montana Hybrid weighs ~100#. I was thinking surely I would need to either reposition the struts or get stronger ones. Neither was in fact correct. The original struts work fine to support the trap door to the below mattress storage. I was shocked.

I added an appropriately sized linear actuator with internal limit stops I got from Amazon. Now I just flip a switch and the bed is raised or lowered electrically. Total cost was less than $50.

Hohenwald48, do you have any pics of this mod? Also, part number/discription of the actuator?

@Hohenwald48........Yes, please pics and link to the actuator you used. The ones I see that are short enough to fit under the bed will not raise the platform very high.

I will be watching this thread. Like the idea of having a switch to hold up the mattress. We use ours for dirty clothes and storage.
