Maximum rated pin weight, fifth wheel?

this is an interesting topic to me since i recently discovered that my pin box on my 2021 337rls is actually stamped with a max pin weight rating. it states that 3100 lbs is the max. i discovered this as i was interested in replacing with the morryde rubber pin box and wanted to make sure i got the correct replacement. anyone else have a rating stamped into the pin box?

My old (2021) 303 had the same pin box, with the same weight limitations. That 3100# is almost double the dry pin weight, so I guess it’s adequate. It would have been challenging to get that trailer that nose heavy.

The Morryde pin box on my solitude says 21,000# and 5250# max pin weight. That’s heavy, my suspicion is that there is another frame component that is more likely restrictive, but you would have to ask Lippert who makes the chassis. The Morryde pin box fits a wide range of different trailers, it’s way more than what my 310GK needs.

My engineer brain thinks that once you get north of 25% pin weight, you start getting into longitudinal frame flexing, which leads to the problems on some of the new momentum models.

Last time I weighed my 337RLS my pin weight was 3080.

I installed a 20K Reese Goose box on our 303RLS. Maximum pin weight is stated as 4,000 pounds from Reese right in the literature and installation manual.

I'm wondering which model of the morryde pin box you went with? I also have a 2021 337rls. According to the morryde cross reference chart you're supposed to use the GVWR of the unit to select the correct pin box. My 337rls GVWR is 13995 lbs, which is right on the line between the RPB72-1621HD-04 & RPB72-1621HD-05 boxes.
I'm wondering if I should go with the lighter box (11,501 - 14,000lb) or the next step up (14,001 - 18,000lb)

I've swapped out the 1621HD for a Reese Goosebox, but am going to dig out the 1621 to see if there is anything stamped regarding the max recommended pin weight.

Thanks Rob, my understanding is that's the max trailer weight. I'm trying to determine the max recommend pin weight for our 2022 351M. I don't think I've ever seen one published by Grand Design.

You're right - my bad. The pin box is a Lippert product and even they don't list a max pin weight.

Just verified that ours has the same stamping. We went with the MoRryde RPB72-1716-04. Very please with the performance after a few years of pulling with it. Form, fit and function as advertised.
