50 amp power a must!! What??
I thought I had heard a lot of strange stories about dealing with rv manufacturers but have now heard a new one. A good camping buddy went to pack up and his rears jacks would not raise. After troubleshooting and not coming up with a quick solution, he checked his fuse panel. He has a 2019 Highland Ridge fifth wheel. When he opened the fuse panel he found about a quarter of the panel had melted. The fuses were just a blob of plastic. When he pulled out the panel the wires in the back were also melted. He did manage to get the rig home and after a lot of investigation, they found a staple had punctured one of the incoming lines to the panel and that is what caused the problem. Nothing new so far, right?
He then contacted the manufacture and explained the problem with the melted panel. Their response was it could only happen when you were plugged into shore power, what power connection did you have at the time? When he told them it was a 20amp power source, they responded with, That is the problem. You have a 50amp trailer. You have to be plugged into a 50amp power source or you will have problems. Not our problem, you are on your own.
Has anyone else ever heard this kind of statement? He tried to ask what to do with all of the rv parks in the nation that only have 30amp service and they would not answer any questions and kept repeating that he was at fault for not using a 50amp service. Why would he need 50amps? he only has one A/C.
The builder of the fuse panel did send him a new panel at no cost that he installed on his own. He is now not even getting any response from the builder. He is up and running again but greatly disappointed with the manufacturer.2019 29rs

They're shining him on and hoping he'll just go away. That's not the most nonsensical thing I've ever heard, but it is in the top 5.

Not that specific statement, but similar ones of customer service trying to blow you off. Their comment is, of course horse____ (rhymes with spit)
I have never received that kind of treatment from GD. In my experience they have been very good.
But on a related note...some owners manuals say to not use power adapters......2018 Dodge 3500 6.7 Cummins SRW w/Aisin

That falls in the same category of when my slide was leaking when retracted and my dealer said that it was normal because I parked it level. I had to park it on an angle. After mentioning my dealers response to GD, they confirmed it wasn't normal and authorized a model tech who fixed the issue.
If I was your friend I'd entertain hiring a lawyer. That's definitely neglect and could have put lives at risk.Steph & Lise

I swear, some of these dealer reps must think that everyone is actually stupid enough to believe some of the stuff they say......or, they may just be pathological liars....who knows for sure.
And old saying that I learned years ago....."If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance....baffle them with your B.S.!"Last edited by xrated; 10-08-2022 at 08:55 AM.

Gotta love some of these dealers/manufactures/help(less) desks.Larry KE4DMG
