Plywood under mattress 380FL
Has anyone else had this problem? While helping DW make the bed the mattress got hung up. Finally got it off and a screw was sticking up from the plywood at the head of bed. So easy fix he says, removed mattress and found the solid piece of plywood and the section that lifts is totally out of square. Even the bed base is out of square.

I've not seen anything that bad. Is your unit new? If so, that's something the dealer should remedy under warranty.

My eyes aren't the best anymore, but I can pretty plainly see that the left screw at the head end is torn out of the plywood.
Looks to me that it was square and someone tore out that screw and now it looks crooked.Steve- Inventory Manager at Tom Schaeffer's RV, Shoemakersville, PA www.tomschaeffers.com

So much for the 100 pt PDI as it leaves the factory. Guess that person had the day off. A cordless screw gun and a few mins would fix that. I would look over the box and see what's causing it to be out of square and hit that with the screw gun as well. No way I'd hitch up and haul it to a dealer only to sit there for weeks. The tow time alone is enough time to square things up.

If you plan to fix it yourself you need to figure out what is out of square. You need a square and tape to start with. Measure each piece of the plywood top and frame and make sure they were cut so they fit together. If the sizes don’t match up you may be looking at recutting or replacing the plywood. Use the square to check the frame. There is a good chance since all parts are cut for the production line that the frame is out of square. If the frame is out of square and the board lengths match from top to bottom and side to side you need to do whatever it takes to bring the bed frame into square.

We’ve had nothing but problems with the King Bed on our 380FL. It started with severe bowing of the plywood (on the portion of the bed that lifts up). Then the entire bed frame detached from the wall of the slide. We upgraded our mattress to a Brooklyn Bedding RV king (fantastic mattress BTW). The new mattress is much heavier than the hoopty mattress delivered with the coach, so lifting the bed to access the under-bed storage was very difficult. shortly after repairing (reattaching) the bed frame to the slide wall, it separated again and the mounting points for the gas struts under the bed tore away from the frame as well. I called GD and they told me to take it to a dealer to have it looked at. We weren’t keen on the local dealers appointment schedule (and expected time they would have our coach) so we decided to stiffen/reinforce the bed frame, remove the gas struts and give up on the under-bed storage (it was a giant PIA to access anyway). Once we reinforced the plywood (with 2X3’s), screwed the plywood to the frame and covered the plywood with vinyl (to protect the mattress), all our problems disappeared.

Sounds like you're happy now, but with reinforcement and higher pressure struts you could reclaim that storage area without breaking your back if you ever decide you want to.
