Yes, is is necessary unless you are absolutely certain you won’t have freezing temperatures between now and when you go further south. It really isn’t difficult to do, it is like most things in life; the first time or two it seems difficult but it gets easier after that.

Will it get cold enough to freeze? If so, then yes, winterize.

It got down into the twenties last night I know nothing probably happened but if so what kind of damage would you have to look for? I'm winterizing it today

Best way to check for leaks is to set up for dry camping with some fresh water in the tank and turn on the water pump. With no faucets on, and a leak somewhere, the pump will run every once in a while. If no leaks, after the initial run of a few se ones. the pump will stop and not run again. Maybe wait for a half hour or so to make sure there are no small leaks.

Then. Run some water down each drain and make sure the ptraps in the drain lines are not leaking.

@Second Chance - Not that I'm being cheap - but can you dilute the Antifreeze say 50/50 and still prevent frozen waterlines? works in car radiators. thoughts?

In short, no. Automotive antifreeze is a completely different animal. RV antifreeze is so inexpensive and not intended to be diluted.

ok thanks, I used auto Anti last year - I'll make the trip to RV store this year. I thought about trying just blowing lines out and filling p traps being in central Texas - but after that real hard freeze last year - best be safe. 3rd winter with this little rig.

Automotive antifreeze should not be used in RV water systems as it is toxic to humans.
