    Winterizing

Should I have to winterize my camper even though I have never used it and I plan on taking it out in January. For contacts I live in central Virginia and I am heading to Texas. When I get to Texas I will be living in it for 2 years.

Was it winterized when you got it?

No. I got it in early October. It had a full tank of water and was dumped. It's been getting down to the low 30s here.

It likely has water in the systems (lines, water pump, sumps, etc.) from the dealer's PDI. I would advise winterizing it if temps are going to get below freezing.

BTW - a belated "Welcome to the forum!" @asirico22. Here are a few forum tips:

    1) If you use "Reply With Quote" (to the right of "Reply") as I have here, folks will know to whom you are responding and that person will get a notification.

    2) You can also tag folks using the "@" symbol and their user name (as I have done yours) - they'll also get a notification that way.

    3) If you decide to get a paid membership (inexpensive and well worth it IMO), you can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

Typically when you purchase a unit and the dealer winterized it, they will put a sticker somewhere indicating it's been winterized. I've gotten by just blowing out the lines with air while living near Williamsburg VA. I would put antifreeze in toilet and traps.

30 minute job; $12 worth of antifreeze; just do it!

Guessing three jugs @ $4 each will do the trick. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tec...4?athbdg=L1100

Does take it TX early help? Lots of folks who snowbird in FL do that (I'll bet TX snowbirds are no different); They run their rigs down here and fly or drive back home then come back for the season. I know - it's along drive, but if it is going to bet there anyway it is something to consider.

If it easy to winterize then I'd do that. But you didn't say what model you have. A big rig with ice maker, etc. would be harder than something without an ice maker and/or lots of long line runs and multiple sinks, faucets, etc.

So after watching GDs video on winterizing, is it really necessary to go through all of that when I am just going to de-winterize in 2 months?
