When winterizing beware of the Furrion 2.4 gpm. tankless water heater
I finally got around to winterizing my 22 G.D. 315 RLTS. Draining went well blowing out did not think I had the valves on my Nautilus system turned wrong way on powerfill instead of winterize anyway I went to next step putting pink antifreeze in and that went well. I think I got everthing covered except when I watched this very good video and the problem this poor women had with a Furrion heater. Watch this video and you will understand the problem with this heater.
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ivf...annel=Paradise in aTin Can)
The video showed me the problem a women had with her brand new Grand Design water heater had what I would call a design flaw in that the mixing chamber has no low point drain and are hard to get antifreeze in . It is no wonder Furrion has stopped making this model #FWHO9A-AM. The rv was winterized by the dealer and it was broke 1st time women tried to use it telling her no parts available to buy a new water heater at anywhere from $500-$2,000 dollars. What the womens very good brother did was fix it and put in a low point drain on the mixing bowl so it does not happen again. Now I am very worried that even though I saw very solid pink come out my heater drain I am not sure the pink was able to get into the bottom part of the mixing bowl in that when flushing the water heater the pink might not get into the mixing bowl. Not sure if I should try to blow the heater out again or just leave the way it is, or pull the heater out and put a drain in bottom of mixing bowl. The purpose of the mixing bowl the way I understand it is to give you a more constant water temp. I just think it was a poor design. Appreciate all comments Thank-You

That is a very timely post @Yuke11, I also have the Furrion tankless water heater. Mine was winterized by the dealer last year and worked fine come spring. But it doesn't appear that the dealer used any anti-freeze. When I inspected it in the spring, the pressure relief valve was out and there was no anti-freeze in the heater. So I assumed they blew all of the water out of the heater before pumping the pink stuff into the rest of the water system. After watching the video, I'm wondering if it is possible to "blow out" the mixing tank, or is more required?

S.S. I imagine if blown out according to instructions with 4 valves (red, white, green,+ blue) cocked 45 deg. and black horizontal blow thru lines taking out heater drain should get all the water out of the heater which since we have no holding tank only water in it would be in the softball sized mixing valve but since that does not have a low point drain not sure how much if all water gets blown out. In the video I find it ironic that a dealer winterized it and she got a cracked hot water heater and never even used it telling me if a dealer did not winterize it properly it could easily happen to any one. When I did put pink in the system my wife was watching at the heater and said about a liter of plain water came out before the pink so I feel the mixing bowl is full of the pink as the guy said it holds about a liter. I am going to cross my fingers and hope it don't crack till next spring. I think the best thing would be to just put a low point drain plug in the mixer next year maybe I worry too much but I do not want to have to buy a new water heater at cost of $500-$2000 dollars I would either fix it or take it off and bypass it if that happened just think there should have been a recall on this item as that is probably why that model is no longer made they know its not a good design. I guess to really know your RV you should totally rip into the underbelly and see what everything does and where it goes as there is a lot of faulty workmanship to get these things out the door right now. I can see it can take many years to learn about your RV. I am not even sure yet how many gallons my fresh water tank holds book says 60 but somewhere else I saw 42 so not sure I hope its 60 because thats another problem we have in that my wife says she has to run a half sink of water before it gets hot to do dishes so the water goes fast at that rate. I am not sure how long you could dry camp with these if you have no 50 amp. service I think not long so what do you do carry a generator with and run constantly?

Checked with my dealer and they referred me to GD's video. This is Grand Design's video: https://youtu.be/90Q3W1sHQqc. Since this is the method my dealer used last year and all was in order in the spring, I'm confident that my method which is similar to what is shown in the video will be fine.

I like that idea S.S. I was thinking of pulling my whole water heater out and checking the mixing valve which supposedly is mounted in the rear as I looked in the side yesterday and could see no ball I do not know if you have enough slack in all the lines and tubing to do that. I have the rv. in an unheated building but o.s. temp. today is 19 so I worry.

Very timely...I was just thinking of posting my experience with the Furrion tankless water heater, hoping to save someone else the trouble I’ve experienced. As background, this is not my first trailer, and I’ve winterized various trailers for 20 years -- but this was my first experience with a tankless water heater.
I have a 2022 Reflection 337RLS (purchased July 2021) which I winterized in the Fall ’21 following the instructions in the GD manual. We took a trip to FL in Jan ’22 and when I hooked up the water supply, I got the waterfall out of the bottom of the Furrion water heater. It froze and burst over the cold months. I had to order a new one from Amazon for $650 out-of-pocket.
The first error in the GD manual’s winterizing instructions: Step #3 says “Open drain plug on hot water heater to drain water If unit is equipped with hot water holding tank”. There is no mention of the tankless system which also has two drain plugs which must be drained.
The second issue is with the GD video linked in the earlier post. The GD employee mentions that the Winterize position on the Nautilus system bypasses the Furrion tankless water heater, but you have to read through the comment section to see where a GD employee posted that if you want to pump anti-freeze through the Furrion (and the rear mixing bowl), you have to move the Red handle to the City Water position (while leaving the other handles in the Winterize position). When I switched the Red handle to the City Water position, I pumped about a half-gallon of anti-freeze out of the Furrion drain plugs until I didn’t see any more clear water coming out. In the video, he also failed to mention moving the handles to 45 degrees while blowing air through the system to clear any water trapped in the Nautilus (this is in the GD Manual).2019 F250 SRW 6.2L Gas

Hi all,
I read this post yesterday - thanks to all for sharing.
I checked the mixer bowl on the tankless water heater on our 2022 Reflection 337RLS. The bowl was frozen solid. But no splits in the bowl - thank you again to all for the posts.
Note that I winterized by the book - but obviously the book was not written to cover this issue.
Best wishes to others.

I just read the Furrion winterize section in their users manual. It says unless you run antifreeze through the tankless heater you MUST blow out the tankless heater before bypassing the tankless heater.
