    Warranty warning for new owners

Don't know if this is dealer specific. Dropped a list of about 30 items off and set up an appointment with the dealer about a month ago. GD gave them time on all the items.

Then today when I dropped the 310 off, I got to sign a form saying I could be liable for over $1,000 if Grand Design determines the warranty issues aren't covered. Whoops. Dropped a whole bunch of small stuff of the list and just left what I knew was broken on a new list. If GD doesn't warranty cover an item, they don't reimburse the dealer for the time to diagnose.

At least the dealer was up front about it and we culled the list down to what we both believed would be covered under warranty.

Never heard of this one before. My dealer has never had this statement on any of the warranty stuff we have asked to have fixed, even the loose trim or some roof caulking issues. We have been told that there are items that they cover from the sale of the trailer and items that Grand Design or other manufacturers warranty. Sounds like your dealer is trying to hose you for the things that they are suppose to cover.

Believe you are correct. Had a warranty issue in August and didn't have to go through this. Basically GD authorized .2 hours each to diagnose a bunch of issues on my list. Dealer is saying GD won't pay the dealer for the .2 hours if GD determines it's not covered under warranty. So things like my slide-topper which pulled out of the channel are now question marks. I will attempt to confirm this directly with GD. But everything noted should still be covered under the factory warranty - 8 months old.

I'd like to think so with the exception of the Goosebox that the dealer purchased and installed. But I was really taken aback by what I had to sign.

Maybe GDs assumption is you or the environment may have possibly been at fault for some of the issues somehow - in other words not neccessarily a part or install failure, but weather or usage related?

We didnt had many issues with our GD trailer, but the 3 or 4 issues we did have GD covered 100%. I wonder if it could also possibly be your dealers writeup and presentation of the issues to GD? Either way, wish you luck with getting them all fixed under warranty.

I don't know - slide out mis-aligned, brake and wheel locking intermittently, furnace duct disconnected, LEDs out, drawer slide bearings on floor, items identified in PDI and noted to be repaired, jacks not retracting, slide topper pulled out of channel, pantry door that won't stay closed when leveled, front compartment door warped, and a lot of things I could probably live with or repair myself but shouldn't have to. And since the dealer is complaining that GD is not being supportive, it might be their relationship with GD. Either way, I hope GD will honor their warranty.

Most frustrating to have Jaboni and Lippert support tell me that they'd rather deal directly with the end customer than through GD for warranty repairs. That isn't a good sign.

Yes seems to me that your dealer is trying to get out of things like the slide topper that they should be covering from the sale.

Seems to me that these things should be covered. I think my dealer also deals directly with the 3rd party for warranty items. I had an issue with the fridge not staying closed. Needed an adjustment and I believe they dealt with Norcold directly as many 3rd party items are warrantied through the 3rd party.

The fans on my refrigerator quit working during our first trip this year. 7 separate trips and they never worked. I brought the trailer in this month to get the recall (wiring issue) fixed and get the fan issue taken care of. After they took care of the wiring issue they tested the refrigerator. Guess what? The fans worked when they tested it. The dealer said they can’t charge GD for the warranty work on the refrigerator since there is no problem. I suspect the wiring issue somehow fixed the fan issue. But, I had to pay $136.00 in labor charges anyway. I’ve had the trailer less than two years and had to have the cooling unit replaced in year one and then had an entire season without a properly working refer. Im not a happy camper.
