Expensive (relatively speaking) but worth it.
Expense is the key here vs silicone. Big difference in price but big difference in quality and longevity too.

What is expensive is the damage that poor sealer causes.

I've recently joined the Lexel gang. Pretty cool stuff. It's a solvent based sealant/adhesive. Back in the summer we were on a trip and it poured rain and I mean it poured rain. I noticed a puddle the in the master bath floor. Didn't take long to figure out it was the outside 120v plug cover had warped and pulled away slightly from the side of the trailer. I went out in the pouring ran and sealed it with Lexel. No issue since. I've used it all around the trailer inside and out.

I'm a big fan of Sikaflex. I haven't used it on our RV, but have used it installing windows, doors, tubs, etc. around the house for years. It's thicker than the cheap DAP caulks and remains flexible. It's also paintable.

Here is a pretty good discussion on sealants from the Airstream forum. Set aside some time if you decide to read it - its 16 pages long.

Great discussion. If I understand this correctly, the 3M 4000 product is white when dried. What product would you use around the windows?
