A 26 foot travel trailer and 36 foot 5th wheel. looking for a nice RV park. We have been to Yellowstone 3 times in the last year and stayed at Grizzle rv park Just outside the gate at west Yellowstone looking for something similar.

What time of year you going? That matters quite a lot…both for what you can see and where you stay. Also, you can see Glacier from both the East and West sides.

We were there the end of June, 2022… we have a 42’ 5th wheel and managed to stay inside the NP on the West Side in Apgar CG. It was beautiful but very tight. If you go to the West side, I would stay just outside the entrance of the park in West Glacier Village. There’s a very nice (and very new) RV park called ‘West Glacier RV Park’. It fills up quick, so book ASAP.

This photo is the spot we had inside Apgar… your rigs are smaller and would likely have lots of sites that work. Apgar is a dry CG though… West Glacier RV park is going to be very similar to Grizzly RV (we’ve stayed there a couple times too).

The end of May in Glacier can be pretty Wintry. One of the highlights of Glacier NP is the ‘Going to the Sun Road’. This is the road that essentially bisects the Park. IMO, It’s the single most scenic stretch of road in the lower 48. Because of the difficulty removing winter snowpack and the typical late Springs in Northern MT, this road usually doesn’t open until late June or early July… That’s why July/August are so busy there. If you plan far enough in advance (I’d sure start now), Late June/early July (before the 4th) is a good time to see a lot and still miss the peak crowds.

The NP service typically begins clearing GTSR in May (weather permitting) and they open the road as far as it’s clear to pedestrian and bike traffic. When we were there in late June the road was clear to nearly the top, but largely closed to auto traffic. We took our E-bikes and went almost to the top… crazy/unforgettable ride. If you don’t have E-Bikes, you can rent them in West Glacier or just inside the park at Apgar Village. Or… If you’re in better shape than this dude, you can ride a conventional bike as well.

What about mid to late September or even 1st part of Oct. We do not mind the snow but would love to be able to drive the Going to the sun road

We were at west glacier rv park in late May/ early June. Going to the sun was not open yet, but the benefit was that nothing was crowded and we still had a great time exploring the area. Negative was that many trails were still covered in snow and ice and essentially unusable (nobody was trying). We do want to go back and see going to the sun, but if you don’t like crowds, there is still lots to do with it closed. West glacier was a nice park in a great location, but it’s basically just a giant clearing with everyone in rows. Worked great for us to explore the park.

I can’t speak to when it closes, but it can be early if they get early snow. We are talking serious elevation. Take a look at the typical opening/closing dates if that is a must do (but recognize every year is different - it opened late this year on Jul 13). NPS says it’s typically open until the 3rd weekend in October. Be mindful it may be on a reservation system.

There is a lot going for both sides of the park. We've like the east side because you can also visit Many Glacier and Two Medicine. But the west side has a few nice hikes (e.g. Avalanche Lake) and has a lot more commercial stuff outside the park. There are lots of campgrounds on the west side, only a few on the east side (commercial - I don't know about federal onces in the park).

LOTS of crowds. You need to get a pass normally to get in but maybe toward the end of the season not so much.

This web site shows the opening/closing dates for GTTS road. It may make you reconsider your late Sept / early Oct dates.
