Use 6 pt. leveling system to change tires?

Is it OK to use the 6 pt. leveling system to change tires, meaning lift all 4 wheels off the ground to change the tires?

I would have no problem with it, but there are differing opinions on it. The hydraulic levelers are rated 8-10,000 lbs. each, so IMO, not an issue. Most builders, Grand Design included, say not to do it, but I feel that is a CYA.

I’ve done it. Really is no reason not to. The only danger is a catastrophic hydraulic failures. Don’t get under it without Jack stands

The early literature from lippert listed changing tires as an advantage. That disappeared probably due to lawyers as @Happy Frood eluded to.

There are quite a few threads on this topic on the forums... electric systems - not so much; hydraulic systems - people do it all the time (including me). Lippert's and GD's cautions were written by the attorneys.

With a hydraulic system its possible because I think you can control all 6 of the hydraulic jacks independently and I would probably do it that way.

With the Electric 6 way leveling system, you can not control the mid jacks at all. So raising all the RV tires off the ground with just the front landing gear and rear jacks only would cause a lot of middle frame flex on a 37 foot 16,000# RV and maybe too much strain on just 4 jacks (2 front 2 rear) no mid support. Or like on a 2930RL it only has 4 way electric leveling. So I use a jack & stand under the U bolts on the axle and do the tires one at a time, or use the spare tire and do two at a time.

With the hydraulic systems, you can control front/rear or left/right - not completely independently. That would put undue stress on a single point of the frame.

I use the 6 point leveling system to change/rotate the tires and hand pack the wheel bearings. I have had no issues at all.

Do it all the time with our 2930RL. As mentioned above ours has 4 electric jacks and I simply raise one side at a time depending where I'm working. I like the simplicity of electric jacks.
