Ditto to what everyone has said. No grease on the jaws or the plate....use the lube plate. My hitch is 13 years old and works like new.....no issues.

I use White lithium on the jaw face and rotation points and clean after each trip (when I remember) I believe on the B&W web site they have a maintenance section that gives the recommendations. They also have great customer service so give them a call too.

When I disconnect I put on a cheap kingpin lock. It covers the kingpin and hopefully the crook will go to the next trailer.

If you read the instructions that came with the Companion hitch it says to grease either the jaws or the kingpin. Grease is important whenever you have metal to metal contact.

It seems like kids only need to be within 5' of something greasy and they are guaranteed to end up with grease on them or their clothes...

That is a cheap pin lock that I got on Amazon. The picture is upside down, and I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks. I currently used an oversized bright tennis ball (little kid toy about 4" dia) with slits cut in it to hold in the jaw grove, but I do wipe the king pin clean if I will be camped for a while. The prime purpose of the ball is to visually show so I don't hit my head and if I do cushion the blow.

I don't know if you can read that black box on the right. It says grease inside of jaws.
The white box on the left says Spread a thin layer of multy-purpose grease around the inside surface of the jaws where they grasp the kingpin.
You may also want to apply some grease to the kingpin on your trailer.

I think the lock does doubly duty.
