How Heavy Is Too Heavy For The Ramp And Garage

My new 398M-R has the big 18' garage and I already own a 9 year old Kubota 1140CPX that weighs in at 2,392 lbs.

Ramp says 3,000 lb cap with 1,000 lb per tire cap.

So it sounds like I have capacity to spare as long as I dont exceed the payload cap of the trailer as a whole

Just wondered "how much toy" have you ever loaded in your toy hauler?

    5,000 payload

    15,000 dry

    20,000 gvwr

    2,980 hitch weight

The approx 2k in payload cap gets used quickly with dishes and kids stuff and such. I get overweight quick if I use a toy heavier than a golf cart

We have a 397TH and we haul a side x side that's weighs right at 2000lbs, with me in it about 200lbs more. No problems loading or unloading.

The ramp gate has a 3000 lbs capacity when used as a ramp. That goes down to 1500 lbs capacity when used as a rear patio. You should be good as long as you don't go over the payload capacity of the trailer.

OK thanks. I think we're good. Mainly I was wanting to be sure that the ramp, even though it said 3k ramp max, was REALLY capable of that weight, especially in light of the fact that my 190 lb body will be in it along with diesel. Didn't want to find out the hard way that they were overrated and have it collapse.

Overall, regarding payload, it pencils out to a couple thousand pounds of water, dishes, clothes, etc, which with the large family we have, we will probably get there pretty quick. Add the 2,400 lb side by side, and we're maxed out on payload for this triple axle.

We'll manage, but makes me wish I'd found one with the 8k axles. Seems like I read somewhere that excessive payload is a wonderful thing.........................

Why would you feel you need 8,000 lb. axles? It is a triple axle isn't it? 7,000 lb. axles would equate to 21,000 lbs. carrying ability. With 4,000 lbs. on the hitch, you're only looking at about 16,000 lbs. being carried by the axles. That would give you an overhead of 5,000 lbs.

Oh I just was saying that, since I am getting close to the max payload of the trailer I am imagining, after I load the close to 2,400 lb side by side plus all the water and fuel and clothes and "stuff" of 8 people for an extended trip.

I have been shocked at CAT scales before, by the "loaded weight" of my other 5th wheel trailer when we pack for a week trip in Branson and such, where everyone has a weeks worth of winter clothes and shoes and such.

Im sure my 398 is going to haul everything I want it to just fine.

Adding the 8,000 lb. axles may not have given you that much more capacity. I don't have them, the option of having the 8,000 lb. axles instead of 7,000 lb. on my Momentum only added 1,200 lb. to my GVWR.

Well, if you've got more than 21,000 lb. on those axles you're more than a bit over your GVWR.

On my 381M, I have a 5300 pound payload and with my gold cart and all our “STUFF” I used about 3400 of the payload…. I think my golf cart weighs about 800 pounds, but then add my genset, fuel, propane, all the clothes, dishes, food, beer, and blah blah blah, I seem to eat up 3400 really fast!!!
