    Air Compressor

Looking to add a portable air compressor to my rv. 12 volt versus 120 ? Any suggestions.

120 V will have more power, but would be useless if you need it when 120 is not availible.
There are 12Vs that will perform well. I carry a Rigid 18V battery powered one. Ican handle my 125 PSI tires, and I own a lot of their battery powered tools and all of them use the same batteries.

I had a Porter Cable 120V compressor, and it did the job, but was really noisy, and bulky to stow. I use quite a few Dewalt cordless tools at home so I bought the Dewalt cordless inflator. A pretty reasonable price, was more reasonable when I bought it, not as loud as the Porter Cable, and exceptionally convenient. It's a bit slow to inflate, but it's also set it and forget it. Shuts off when it reaches the pressure. No complaints.

I carry a 6 gal pancake compressor because I already had it for taking air tools out on some job sites, but when I get tired of lugging it around and losing the truck bed space I will probably pickup a Viair compressor and mount it on the underside of my truck. I've heard great things about Viair and a friend has one mounting under the truck with a quick disconnect port mounted in the rear bumper and I'm very jealous.

I keep a Viair 400P, if I were to do it again, I would get the 450P (I think the model is correct, but it is the one with the 100% duty cycle). The Viair has been good, I put an inline moisture filter on it to remove water since thankless compressors have no way of removing the moisture from the air. In a tank compressor, the moisture collects in the tank.

I went back and forth for quite a while trying to pick between the Viair 400P and the Viair 450P. Ended up going with the Viair 450P-RVS. The 400P moves more air (which translates to inflating faster), but as previously stated, the 450P has the 100% duty cycle which is why I ultimately chose it (I fried a compressor when it overheated after I significantly exceeded the duty cycle). I don't think you can go wrong with either model. They're both solid and really compact. The 450P-RVS with all of its accessories in its carry bag weights less than 25 pounds and fits easily under the rear seat of my truck.

I haven't had it long, but so far, the Viair 450P has done everything I asked of it. It's a huge step up from the 12V/120V inflator I was carrying.

@FT4NOW Great idea adding the inline moisture filter. It never dawned on me that I needed to remove moisture even though I should have known (spent some time draining gallons of water from several hundred gallon pressure tanks). An inline moisture filter is now at the top of my shopping list.

I have the Viair 400P. I use it to air up the air bags on the truck and Goose Box and it does fine. I think airing 4 tires from 50 psi to 80 psi would be a struggle.

VIAIR all day, every day. I had one of their units a couple of decades when I was heavy into off-road. Great units! In addition to a moisture filter, a little oil evert now and again to keep the seals pliable.

Thanks for all the replies. I think the 12v is the way to go since most of the use I will not have shore power. I've seen the Viair compressor on amazon, they seem to have good reviews.
