That's basically what we're doing. She's just raising them to add more time between cleaning.

I don't usually remember in the morning when I'm making breakfast. Then the wife comes down and "asks" me to raise the blinds, or use the splatter shield.

I took the shade and valance down when I replaced the window over the stove after the window exploded in tiny pieces. We liked it better without them so we tossed them. Now we don’t have to clean them. We have a piece of foam core board cut to the size of the window that can be leaned up against the window to catch grease splatters or if the sun is shining in.

Sounds like a good way to do it. No more grease on the window. I don’t like the window but do like the light it lets in.

This is probably the primary reason for not having any kind of cloth shade/blind. Another would be that any grease splatter would be hard to clean off any kind of fabric material.

Wouldn't those blinds be held up with a clip like the roller shades are? Where you push up on the tab and the shade/rail falls out. To put them back in you "pivot" the rail back into the clips? Maybe they don't but most blinds do these days.
