    2021 GMC Sierra 1500 towing 2023 Grand Design 260Rd

Likely 1600-1800 pin weight then 150 for the hitch so 1700-2000 lbs added to the truck
First thing to do is understand the difference between pulling and carrying a load.

Can you? Sure. Lots of folks pull 5ers with half tons. Are you going to be over capacity of the truck? Definitely. GD's "half ton" marketing is a bit misleading. The percentage of half ton trucks that can handle those trailers while not going over capacity is quite small.

I've been towing my 260RD locally (no more than 65 miles) with my 2012 Sierra 1500. It's a load, I've got load range E tires and Timbrens. I wouldn't want to tow it on a long trip. I'm going south in April and now have a Ram 2500 Cummins that will be a much better tow vehicle.

Thanks guys. Looks like we’re going 2500RL trailer. Lighter. Don’t understand why 5th wheel heavier than trailer. Thinking load further back on hitch squats truck more but…🤷**♂️

Fifth wheels tend to be heavier than most travel trailers, anyway, and are designed to put 20 - 25% of their total weight on the pin (travel trailers put 12 - 15% on the ball) which is a much stronger hitching system than a draw bar with ball. The fifth wheel setup also puts its pin weight over the rear axle of the truck which is a more stable situation - that's why semis are fifth wheels.

Load is farther back on a TT than a 5er. You have the leverage of the length of the tongue. Plus, with a WDH setup, the load isn't all on the back of the truck. The WDH provides a torque input that twists the draw bar in the receiver in such a way to load the truck's front axle and trailer axles while removing load from the rear axle.

If you do it right, a half ton with WDH will give you a nicer ride than a HD truck with a 5er. My setup gives my rear suspension a few inches of that nice half ton ride before contacting the overload springs on big bumps.

Thank you, This site rocks with all the info.
Now wondering if I should give some help to truck to keep it cool. Do have the small 3.0 duramax.
Larger radiator, oil mods, second fan?
    Suggestions?
