Take the setup loaded with all your cargo and passengers and see where your weights are is the first thing to do imo

“14k” towing is meaningless when towing travel trailers
Those numbers are for boats and flat decks

You will be way over your payload (gvwr) long before 14k

For the sake of everyone on the road around you, if not for your own family’s sake, you should be.

All 1/2 ton trucks have very little payload capacity when it comes to towing trailers. Check your weights on the door sticker and use a truck scale to verify your actual tongue weight. When loaded, your probably well over 1000lbs on the tongue weight and many light trucks only have a 1600 lbs capacity meaning you can fit your family, but not the dog, the extra tools or bike in the truck bed…
Payload is likely the first to be exceeded.

    Congrats on the purchase!
Pay attention to your towing stats and enjoy many safe travels.

Do you really think I'm stupid enough to endanger my family?

No disrespect, but I based my response on your prior statement that you weren’t concerned. To me, It sounded like you didn’t care.

If you’ve checked all of your weights and know that you’re safe to tow that rig, then I wish you and your family many wonderful trips and memories to be had together!

    as far as tips:
    - jack up one wheel at at time and check the brake adjustment. My trailer arrived at the dealer with the brakes dialled all the way out (brake controller couldn’t get them to engage even at max setting)

Hey NB, I don’t understand why towing capacity is meaningless when towing a trailer? Meaningless? Can you expand on that? I’m not disagreeing, simply don’t understand why it doesn’t matter with travel trailers, but does matter for boats or flat decks. They all weigh something, all have tongue weights. I do agree payload will be reached before towing capacity. That’s always true.
